Teacher: Rick Moreno
With roots that take us into ancient China, papel picado is the traditional, festive decorative paper garland featured at Mexican celebrations throughout the country. Rick brings over 15 years of expertise in Mexican crafts to show students how to design and cut beautiful papel picado garlands to honor any occasion. Students will learn the basic techniques for gridding and laying out the shapes to create the design as well as cutting out the “negative spaces” that result in papel picado. The blade technique allows students more precision in the design and cutting of the paper. All materials will be provided. On June 14, students will have the opportunity to exhibit their work at a community exhibition and performance recital.
This class is for adults; students 14 and up may participate in the class if supervised by another adult.
