As part of a commemoration to the legacy of Cesar Chavez and the philosophy of social change through non violence, Opera Cultura is producing Cuentos de Peregrinacion/Tales of Pilgrimage. The project includes a communityinvigorated song cycle opera and a preceding procession. Premiere date is March 29th, 2014. Produced in collaboration with the School of Arts and Culture @ MHP, Teatro Campesino, and Father Jon Pedigo of Guadalupe Church. Directed by Kinan Valdez of Teatro Campesino. Composed by Hector Armienta. This part is part of our effort to expand the definition of Latino / Hispanic opera and connect to our community and audience in new ways.
Be a Performer – No Experience Required: We’re looking for up to 10 community participants to perform alongside professional opera singers. Revolutionary thinking!
Be Part of the Procession – They’ll be a march from Guadalupe Church to the School of Arts and Culture on the day of the performance. It will honor the vision of enacting social change through nonviolent resistance as championed by Cesar Chavez.
Seeking bilingual Spanish/English speaking performing artists. Singing ability is not required.
